News Topical, Digital Desk : The government on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that there is no concrete data to prove a direct link between deaths and air pollution.
Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written reply to a question that the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) launched by the ministry is showing positive results.
Kirti Vardhan Singh said, "There is no solid data that can directly link deaths to air pollution. That is, it can be said with certainty that the deaths were caused solely by air pollution." He said that the NCAP aims to improve air quality in 130 cities across 24 states/union territories.
The minister said that PM10 reductions in 103 cities in 2024-25 compared to the base year of 2017-18 will be achieved. He also said that the government is continuously reviewing and monitoring the implementation framework of the NCAP to further strengthen it.
