News Topical, Digital Desk : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against a migrant labourer from Bihar for allegedly supporting terrorists. According to the investigating agency, the accused labourer had allegedly supported several banned terrorist organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in carrying out terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu. The agency said on Friday that the accused has been identified as Akhlatur alias Mohammad Akhlaq Mujahid, a resident of Katihar district in Bihar.
The accused labourer has been charged under sections 196 and 197 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 13(1)(b) and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The charge sheet was filed before the NIA special court in Poonamallee, Chennai.
Conspiracy was being hatched in Tamil Nadu
According to the NIA, Akhlatur was employed as a laborer at a private construction site in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, and was arrested by the Kayar police in April this year for alleged involvement in anti-national activities. Investigations revealed that the accused was in contact with Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers in Pakistan through cyberspace and was conspiring with them to target "infidels" in Tamil Nadu.
Help in purchasing weapons
The accused laborer had also tried to contact arms dealers to procure weapons and carry out a jihadist-style terror attack with the intention of destabilizing the country. The NIA, with the assistance of other security agencies, successfully foiled the planned attack. The case, registered as RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE (Akhlatur Lashkar and Salafi Ideologues Case), is under investigation as part of ongoing efforts to curb radicalization and violent extremism in India.
