New Delhi :  Due to heavy rains in Kerala, life has been disrupted. Kerala's Wayanad has been devastated. 308 people have lost their lives so far due to landslides here.

The army found 4 people alive.

The Indian Army today found 4 survivors, including two men and two women. An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) was used to evacuate the injured. Wayanad (Wayanad Landslides) is already facing a massive landslide. So far, 308 people have died due to 2 landslides. 

Schools and colleges will remain closed today.

At the same time, given the forecast of rain, all educational institutions, including schools, colleges and tuition centres in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts, will remain closed today, i.e. 2 August. The holiday was announced when the Meteorological Department of Kerala issued an 'orange' alert of rain in Wayanad district until Saturday.

Update on Wayanad Landslides

  • Due to heavy rains and waterlogging in Thrissur, everyday life is affected, and schools have been ordered to be closed. 
  • Many schools in Kerala are functioning as relief camps.
  • According to the latest information from the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are expected to continue in Kerala till 5 August.
  • Three days after the landslide in Wayanad, rescue teams still carry out operations to rescue people trapped in collapsed buildings.
  • Yesterday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the landslide-affected area in Choorlamalla in Wayanad. Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said this is a terrible tragedy for Wayanad and a lot must be done here.
  • The death toll is expected to rise further as many people are still missing. Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the death toll has now risen to 308.
  • According to the Wayanad district administration, the dead included 27 children and 76 women and were mainly from the worst-affected areas of Mundakkai and Choorlamalla.
