New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to consider a plea challenging the acquittal of Dera Sacha Sauda's Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the Ranjit Singh murder case.
A bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma has issued notice to the CBI, Ram Rahim and four other accused in the case. The case is likely to be heard on October 15. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had acquitted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the Ranjit Singh murder case.
The decision of the High Court has been challenged
The High Court had overturned the verdict given by the special CBI court in this case and acquitted Ram Rahim and four others. The special court of Panchkula had announced the sentence in this case, which was later challenged in the High Court. Despite being acquitted, Ram Rahim remained in jail as he was convicted in other cases of rape and murder.
