News Topical, Digital Desk : Winning a National Film Award is a matter of great pride for any actor, director, filmmaker, crew, or artist. Sometimes, it's a dream come true for an artist. However, these awards have so far been given exclusively for films. Now, actor-politician Ravi Kishan has called for the establishment of a National Award category for television.
Demand for National Award for Television
Actor-politician Ravi Kishan has supported the growing demand for television to be included in the National Awards. Recently, TV producer Binaifer Kohli called for the introduction of a National Award category for television, prompting Kishan to say he would pursue the suggestion and write to the ministry to officially propose it.
Ravi Kishan will write to the ministry
Speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming film "Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain! Fun on the Run" on Saturday, Kishan told HT City, “I will write to the ministry to create a category for TV shows in the National Film Awards. This will improve the quality of content and performances on television and put pressure on them to perform well. This could also be extended to different regional languages.”
It is an honour to receive a National Award – Ravi Kishan
With several projects in the pipeline across OTT and cinema, Kishan says national-level recognition for television could encourage better storytelling, including shows based on India's history and culture. He said the award could either be started as a separate ceremony or integrated into the existing National Film Awards. "There are many awards for television in the country, but receiving a National Award is a unique honor," he said.
With 35 years of experience in various formats of television, from early fiction roles to reality shows, Kishan says, "I will continue to raise issues and do my best." After winning the Sansad Ratna Award last year and several film awards for his performance in Lapata Ladies (2024), Ravi says, “After so many years of hard work, I am in the best phase of my life, as a star campaigner, a Best Parliamentarian, and winning all the Best Actor awards. I am balancing both acting and politics, and this is something that our Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath) appreciate. So, I will continue to raise issues and do my best.”
Ravi Kishan's work front
Ravi Kishan will soon be seen in the second season of the OTT series Mamla Legal Hai and Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain along with Fun on the Run, Dhamaal 4, Mirzapur: The Film.
