New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei, a geographically small country located in South East Asia.
PM Modi's special plane landed at Brunei Darussalam airport at 3 pm in the first leg of his two-nation visit over the next three days. The government there extended warm hospitality and sent Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah to receive him.
PM Modi will leave for Singapore today
PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolikayah on Wednesday and will leave for Singapore late in the evening the same day. PM Modi's talks in Brunei will focus specifically on defence and energy relations.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "This is the first visit of an Indian PM to Brunei, which makes it special."
Before leaving for Brunei, PM Modi has issued a statement saying that Brunei and Singapore are important partner countries under India's policy regarding 'Act East' and the Indo-Pacific region. His visit will strengthen India's relationship with both the countries as well as the entire South East Asian region.
India and Brunei complete 40 years of diplomatic relations
PM Modi has specially mentioned the completion of 40 years of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei. After reaching there, Modi has written on the social media platform 'X' that, "I hope that our relations with Brunei will become stronger, especially in the commercial and cultural fields."
Brunei increases its defense budget
Brunei has increased its defence budget, so India can get some big opportunities there. Also, this country is very rich in terms of energy reserves. India still imports a lot of crude oil from Brunei.
