New Delhi. After the budget presentation, there has been a demand from the opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the Home Ministry. However, a total of four ministries are to be discussed, and approval has been given for the discussion on the Urban Development Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry.
The proposal to discuss the Home Ministry was put forward by the Trinamool Congress in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee last Tuesday. This demand has also been supported by the BJD, which is not a part of India's opposition alliance. Sources say that all the opposition parties have supported the Trinamool Congress' demand to discuss the functioning of the Home Ministry in the Rajya Sabha.
On Thursday itself, Trinamool Parliamentary Party leader in Rajya Sabha, Derek O'Brien, wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, saying that the Union Home Ministry should also be included in the ministries to be discussed in the House.
Rajya Sabha, which is called the Council of all states, has a limited role in passing money bills, including finance bills. In Rajya Sabha, only the functioning of some ministries can be discussed. However, in Lok Sabha, discussions are held to approve grants to selected ministries.
