Raj Kapoor was as famous for his meticulousness in his work as he was for his parties. It is said that parties were organised at his house almost every day. In one such party, Shammi Kapoor betrayed his elder brother for the sake of a song, which angered Raj Kapoor and he expelled his brother from the circle. What was the whole story and which song soured the relationship between the two brothers? Read the interesting throw-back story below:

The exchange of songs broke Raj Kapoor's heart

You can guess how much Raj Kapoor loved music from the songs of his films, which are still popular today. He was very serious about music. A YouTube channel that tells old stories shared this anecdote and told that when Raj Kapoor was making 'Sangam' and Shammi Kapoor was making 'Junglee', Raj Kapoor had organized a party in his house, in which there was music as well as alcohol.

Raj Kapoor used to talk about this film in parties. Coincidentally, the music of both Sangam and Junglee was by Shankar Jaikishan and the songs were written by Shailendra and Hasrat together. While the party was going on, Raj Kapoor asked Hasrat to sing a song written by him. He had to write a song on a theme for both the films, in which a lover is singing a song while expressing his love to his beloved.

Shammi took advantage of Raj Kapoor being drunk

Hasrat started singing the songs written for both the films one by one in the gathering, but it had not yet been decided which song would go in which film. As soon as Hasrat recited the first song 'Yeh Mera Prem Patra',  Raj Kapoor  got drunk and could not concentrate on the song.

Then Shammi Kapoor asked Hasrat Jaipuri to sing another song, as soon as he sang 'Ehsaan Tera Hoga Mujhpar', the actor got lost in it. Shammi Kapoor liked this song so much that he started fearing that Raj Kapoor would take the song in Sangam, due to which he requested Hasrat not to sing the second song to Raj Kapoor and said that he would not remember anything by the morning. Hasrat who had no choice remained silent and 'Prem Patra' was shot in Sangam and 'Ehsaan Tera' in Junglee.

Raj Kapoor was angry with Shammi Kapoor's manipulation

If reports are to be believed, sooner or later Raj Kapoor got a whiff of Shammi Kapoor's manipulation of the song. When this news reached his ears, the actor became very angry with his brother. Raj Kapoor was so angry with Shammi Kapoor that he stopped inviting him to the evening musical gatherings. However, later the matter was resolved and the two brothers also reconciled.

While Junglee released on the big screen in 1961, Sangam came three years later in 1964. Both these films were commercial hits, but Junglee received more love and appreciation from critics and audiences.
