The accused of digital arrest has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. It was told that cyber fraudster Devashish Rai, who cheated people through digital arrest, has been sentenced.

The fraudster, who was sentenced within 14 months, did not get bail even once during the hearing. A fine of Rs 68 thousand has also been imposed on the fraudster.

In fact, this miscreant from Masauna in Azamgarh had defrauded Dr. Saumya Gupta, a resident of Lucknow, of Rs 85 lakh in May 2024 by threatening her with digital arrest. Within five days of registering a case in this matter, the cyber crime police arrested the culprit from Mandakini Apartment in Gomtinagar Extension and sent him to jail.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime Kamlesh Dixit said in this regard that Devashish Rai, a resident of Gomti Nagar Extension Sulabh Awas, has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

According to the DCP, in May 2024, Devashish called KGMU doctor Saumya Gupta, a resident of Indraprastha Colony of the metropolis, and introduced himself as a customs officer and said that a cargo has been booked in her name, in which fake passport, ATM card and 140 grams of MDM (narcotic drug) have been recovered, which comes under the category of crime. The accused duped Dr. Saumya of Rs 85 lakh by digitally arresting her for 10 days.

Bail petition of every accused was rejected.
DCP told that Inspector Brijesh Kumar Yadav, who was investigating the case, arrested Devashish, who was living under a cover of identity, from Mandakini Apartment in Gomtinagar Extension within five days. The investigation was completed in three months and a charge sheet was filed against the accused. Police along with the prosecution made an effective plea in the court. Due to proper plea, Devashish's bail was rejected on every date.
