Bengaluru: A landslide has caused massive destruction in Kerala's Wayanad district. Hundreds of people have lost their lives so far. A large number of people are missing. People buried under the debris are being searched. Drones equipped with special sensors are also being used for this. But in the meantime, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S. Somnath said on Saturday that it is not possible to locate people buried under the landslide debris using space technology.
It is not possible to find out what is under the ground
Somnath said that through space technology, information of a certain depth of the ground can be obtained. But it cannot be relied upon to find people. He answered a question related to this in a program organized by ISRO on Instagram.
He said that space-based sensors have limitations in detecting objects buried under debris. It is not possible to detect what is beneath the ground using space technology.
This information was given on the sky travelers
Somnath also answered a question related to the two 'Gaganyatris' selected for the International Space Station (ISS) under the Indo-US mission. He said that the process of going to the International Space Station itself gives you an opportunity to learn a lot. One of our astronauts will be trained in the entire preparation process. This will help us know how to prepare the Gaganyatris for the Gaganyaan mission.
Also talked about ISRO's failures
Somnath said that when the Gaganyatris actually go through the flight experience and work with the international crew already present there, they will actually gain the knowledge and skills that will make ISRO ready for India's mission. Somnath also talked about ISRO's initial failures. He said that he is excited about the first National Space Day to be celebrated on August 23.
