New Delhi: 1.14 crore disputes were settled through reconciliation in the Lok Adalats held across the country on Saturday. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organized the third National Lok Adalat of the year 2024 on Saturday to facilitate people's access to justice and speedy justice.

In these Lok Adalats organized in taluka, district and high courts of 27 states and union territories across the country, disputes were settled through reconciliation and settlement between the parties. The National Legal Services Authority works to make access to justice accessible to all through various initiatives. Lok Adalats are also organized in this sequence.

1,14,56,529 disputes resolved

The third National Lok Adalat of the year 2024 was organized on Saturday. In this, 1,14,56,529 disputes were settled. Out of the total cases, 94,60,864 cases were pre-litigation. That is, these disputes were settled through a compromise agreement even before the case was formally filed in the court. 19,95,665 cases were pending cases, which were settled in Lok Adalats. The disputes settled in Lok Adalat included criminal cases that could be settled through compromise.

Apart from this, these included traffic challans, revenue cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque bounce cases, labour disputes, matrimonial disputes (except divorce cases), land acquisition, consumer cases and other civil cases. The total settlement amount in these cases was about Rs 8,482.08 crore.

These figures are based on data received from across the country. Reports from some state legal service authorities are awaited. The number of cases settled is expected to increase after reports are received from there. The number of disputes settled in the National Lok Adalat and the success of Lok Adalats show that people have faith in Lok Adalats.

People are willing to resolve disputes through alternative methods like mutual conciliation and mediation. The National Legal Services Authority is continuously engaged in organizing Lok Adalats and promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms across the country. This not only reduces the burden of pending cases but also ensures speedy justice.
