News Topical, Digital Desk : Tension spread in the area after unknown criminals shot and stabbed the ruling Trinamool Congress block president Razzaq Khan to death brutally late Thursday night in the Bhangar area of Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.

Police said on Friday that the incident took place in Chaltaberia area under Kashipur police station area. The deceased Razzak Khan (38) was a close associate of Canning East Trinamool MLA Shaukat Molla.

First shot and then attacked with a knife

Khan, the president of the Trinamool Congress' Chaltaberia unit, was returning home after attending a party meeting at night when some miscreants, who were lying in wait near a canal, opened fire on him, a senior police officer said

Kashipur police station official said that initial investigation revealed that the deceased was hit by three bullets. After firing, the attackers also stabbed Khan several times.

No arrests made yet

No one has been arrested in this murder case so far. The reason behind the murder is not clear yet, but the brutality with which Razzaq Khan was killed has raised questions about the law and order situation in the area. After the incident, Kolkata Police Commissioner (CP) Manoj Verma also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

The official said that in view of the tension after the incident, a police team has been deployed in the area and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Trinamool MLA Shaukat Molla has blamed the Indian Secular Front (ISF) for the murder of the party leader.

The attackers targeted him late at night

The Trinamool MLA claimed that Razzaq was returning home after attending two party meetings. He was shot and then stabbed multiple times. Those behind the murder are those who are losing their hold in Bhangar. The criminals who were sheltered by the ISF have killed Razzaq. They are losing their political ground every day and that is why they are now resorting to criminal path.

ISF MLA called the murder a result of internal feud within Trinamool

However, ISF MLA from Bhangar, Naushad Siddiqui, rejected the allegations and described the murder as a result of internal feud within the Trinamool Congress. Bhangar often witnesses political clashes between ISF and Trinamool groups over control of the area.
