New Delhi: SC on Israel War Recently, a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court to ban the export of arms and military equipment to Israel by India. The court was asked to direct the Centre to stop this. Now the Supreme Court has given its decision on this.

What did the court say?

Actually, Israel is fighting a war with Palestinian fighters in Gaza. Indian companies are selling their weapons to Israel. On the PIL filed in the matter, the court today said that we cannot interfere in the country's foreign policy. With this, the court dismissed the petition.

A lawsuit can be filed, but...

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra said that Indian companies involved in export of arms and equipment to Israel can be prosecuted for breach of contractual obligations and hence cannot be barred from making supplies.

The Chief Justice said that any of our instructions can impact foreign policy and we do not know what its impact will be.

Should we also tell Russia not to buy petrol?

During the hearing, lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. To which, the CJI's bench said that we do not interfere in foreign policy. Will we tell the government not to buy petrol from Russia or withdraw all investment from Maldives? This never happens.

Let us tell you that Ashok Kumar Sharma and others had filed a PIL through lawyer Prashant Bhushan, demanding direction to the Center to cancel the licenses of Indian firms exporting weapons and other military equipment to Israel and not to give them new licenses.
