New Delhi: Cyber commandos will be deployed to deal with cyber fraud. The target is to deploy five thousand cyber commandos in the country in the next five years. Specially trained cyber commandos will be able to ensure quick action against cyber fraudsters.

Cyber security is an important aspect of national security

Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched new schemes for Cyber Commandos as well as Cyber Fraud Mitigation Center (CFMC), coordination platform for agencies engaged in investigating cyber crime and creation of a national registry of suspected cyber criminals. Amit Shah made it clear that cyber security is not just limited to the digital world, but it is also an important aspect of national security.

Cyber crime is not limited to the boundaries of any state or country

Amit Shah stressed on coordination between agencies and awareness among common people to deal with cyber crimes. He said that all states make separate lists of suspected cyber criminals, but cyber crime is not limited to the boundaries of any state or country. For this, it has been decided to make a national registry by combining the list of suspected cyber criminals of all states, which can prove helpful in investigating cyber crime in any state.

Formation of CFMC

CFMC has been created for coordination between various agencies. It will work to bring together banks, financial institutions, internet service providers, payment aggregators as well as state investigation agencies on one platform. He described it as a great example of cooperative federalism. Similarly, the coordination platform will work as a one-stop portal for all agencies working against cyber crime, collecting cyber crime data, distributing them among the concerned agencies, mapping cyber crime, analyzing it.

Shah advised to use artificial intelligence in the analysis of data related to cyber crime. He said that this will help in detecting the modus operandi of cyber criminals and preventing it. Along with this, he stressed the need to make common people aware of the helpline number 1930 to deal with cyber crimes. He said that the more people are aware of cyber crimes and the measures to deal with them, the more they will be able to avoid them.

Celebrate Cyber Crime Awareness Fortnight

To make people aware, Shah suggested celebrating Cyber Crime Awareness Fortnight once a year. He asked to run a campaign for the popularity of 1930 simultaneously on all platforms during the fortnight.

Warning about the growing threat of cyber security in the country and the challenges of dealing with it, he said that today 95 crore people in the country use the Internet and use an average of 20.27 GB of data every day. With 35 crore Jan Dhan accounts, 36 crore Rupee debit cards, transactions worth about Rs 21 lakh crore have been done through digital medium. He said that 46 percent of the digital transactions across the world are happening in India. Obviously, with the increase in digital transactions, the need for protection from digital fraud has also increased. More than seven thousand complaints of cyber fraud are being registered with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center every day.
