New Delhi: Emphasising the importance of freedom, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Thursday said recent events in neighbouring Bangladesh reflect the significance of Independence Day and the value of rights.

Speaking to reporters after hoisting the national flag at the Supreme Court complex here, Justice Chandrachud said Independence Day reminds us of our duties towards each other and towards the nation to realise all the values ​​of the Constitution.

It is important to understand past events

He said that what is happening in Bangladesh today is a clear reminder of how valuable freedom is to us. It is very easy to take freedom for granted, but it is important to understand the events of the past so that we remember how important these things are.

Many lawyers dedicated themselves to the nation

Justice Chandrachud said that many lawyers left their legal profession and dedicated themselves for the nation. On the occasion of Independence Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all of you, our journalist colleagues. Through you, I extend my heartfelt greetings of Independence Day to the entire country, especially to those associated with the law.

CJI said- Constitution is above all

The Chief Justice said that this is a day to remind us of our duties towards each other and towards the nation. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was also present during the flag hoisting. He said that the Constitution is supreme.

India will become a developed nation

The minister said the Chief Justice had said a few days ago that the Constitution is supreme. If it is imbibed by the legislature, executive and judiciary, India will become a developed nation.

Supreme Court Bar Association President and senior advocate Kapil Sibal recalled the words of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and said this is the freedom the country is celebrating.
