News Topical, Digital Desk : 27 Maoists including Communist Party of India (Maoist) General Secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraj were killed in a fierce encounter in Abujhmad forests of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on 21 May 2025. This operation is being considered the biggest setback for the Maoist movement. Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraj had a total reward of Rs 10 crore in all the states. A large quantity of weapons were recovered from the spot
Giving information after the encounter, the police had said that 3 AK-47 rifles, 4 self-loading rifles (SLR), 6 INSAS rifles, one carbine, 6 .303 rifles, one barrel grenade launcher (BGL), two rocket launchers, two 12 bore guns, one country-made pistol, two Bharmar guns and a huge amount of explosives were recovered from the encounter site. Inspector General of Police of Bastar region Sundarraj P. said that the Union Home Ministry had announced a reward of Rs 1 crore on Basavaraj, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced Rs 50 lakh, and the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha governments had announced Rs 25 lakh each. He said that it is estimated that there was a total reward of Rs 10 crore on him in all the Left Wing Extremism affected states of the country
