The India Meteorological Department on Thursday warned that large parts of the country, including Delhi, UP and Maharashtra, may receive heavy to very heavy rains in the next few days, and extremely heavy rains are likely in some areas. In total, 26 states and union territories may be affected by this.

It will rain in Maharashtra and Gujarat today

In western India, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours from today. Similar conditions are expected over coastal and northern interior Karnataka on Tuesday, while Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are expected to receive very heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, West Bengal and Sikkim between August 24 and August 25. Northern states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rains during this period.

Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh will receive rain

The IMD bulletin said that very heavy to very heavy rainfall along with extremely heavy rainfall at a few places is very likely at isolated places over coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and north interior Karnataka. In the Northeast, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive heavy rainfall, especially between August 20 and 24.

Yellow alert issued for Mumbai

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Friday after several days of heavy rains in Mumbai, leading to waterlogging, traffic and disruptions in air and rail traffic. The flow of Yamuna has been blocked due to heavy debris in Kupda Gadera in Syanachatti, the main stop of Yamunotri Dham. Due to this situation, many government buildings, hotels, homestays and shops have been submerged.

The local administration has taken immediate action and evacuated the buildings and shifted the people to safer places. There is a possibility of flood in the stream due to rain in the higher regions.

The journey to Yamunotri Dham was also disrupted

The administration says that the flow of Yamuna is normal, so there is no more danger. Deputy District Magistrate Barkot along with NDRF, SDRF, Police, Fire Service, Irrigation Department and Revenue Department are present on the spot. The journey to Yamunotri Dham has also been disrupted, due to which hundreds of pilgrims are stranded at various stops.
