Movies helped him overcome depression... Dwayne Johnson was devastated after his divorce from his wife, the Hollywood actor revealed.

News Topical, Digital Desk : Dwayne "The Rock " Johnson recently opened up about the emotional  challenges he faced during his divorce from his ex-wife Dany Garcia . The couple, who were married for 16 years, divorced in 2007. For Johnson, the separation wasn't just about the end of the marriage, but also about the impact it would have on their 24-year-old daughter, Simone .

Johnson was devastated by the divorce .

" As some of you may know, when you get married, you plan on  a long-term marriage , but then it  doesn't always turn out that way , and then it hits you just like it hit me . We had a baby, and what kind of father was I going to be?" Johnson said on the November 6 episode of The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.

Johnson went into depression

Johnson admitted that the divorce severely impacted his mental health and he suffered a severe period of depression . He said, "I was really upset at that time." This also affected his career . After separating from his wife, Johnson made a conscious effort to play light- hearted , family-oriented roles in films like "The Game Plan " and " Tooth Fairy ." He explained, "I was trying to figure things out, and that was the only thing I really wanted to do creatively ." He added, “I didn't want anything that forced me to confront my inner voice . I wanted things that had a happy ending, and so that's what I did.”

Despite the challenges, Johnson and Garcia managed to handle the responsibility of being co- parents well. They also managed to form a highly successful commercial  partnership . They co-founded Seven Bucks Productions and worked as co- producers for more than a decade .

New Beginning

Today, Johnson  is happily married to Lauren  Hashian , with whom he has daughters Jasmine, 9, and Tiana , 6. Their journey shows that personal problems can impact professional  careers .
