News Topical, Digital Desk : The Calcutta High Court has directed the Chandannagar Municipal Corporation to replace the father's surname with the mother's surname in the birth certificate of a teenager. According to information received from court sources, the teenager's parents are divorced.

She is living with her mother. She is a student of class 9. Her birth certificate has her father's surname 'Chattopadhyay' along with her name, but while making her Aadhar card, passport and other documents, her mother used her surname 'Bhattacharya'.

There was a problem in registration for the board exam

This caused a problem during the registration for the board exams. In view of this, the mother had applied to the Chandannagar Municipal Corporation to change the father's surname in the daughter's birth certificate, on which it was said that according to the rules, the corporation has the right to make amendments in the birth documents only if there is an error in it.

He cannot do anything in the remaining cases. After this, the mother filed a petition in the High Court. Justice Gaurang Kant, after considering this, directed the corporation to change the surname and issue a new birth certificate within a month. He also clarified that even after changing the surname, the teenager will not be deprived of her father's inheritance.
