
News Topical, Digital Desk : A cargo ship caught fire off the coast of Beypore in Kozhikode, Kerala. This ship is a Singapore-flagged container ship, 270 meters long. The ship was coming towards Mumbai. There have also been several explosions and fire incidents in the ship. Many containers loaded on the ship have fallen into the sea. According to the information, none of the 22 crew members are Indians. The crew members are from countries like China, Indonesia and Thailand.
Explosion below deck
According to the Coast Guard, there has been an explosion below the deck. 4 crew members are reported missing and 5 crew members injured. The ship was carrying container cargo with a total of 22 crew members. The CGDO on duty has been diverted for assessment. ICGS Rajdoot from New Mangalore, ICGS Arnavesh from Kochi and ICGS Sachet from Agatti have been diverted for assistance. Meanwhile, according to information received from defense sources, 18 crew members who left the burning container ship off the Kerala coast have been rescued by the Navy and Coast Guard.
INS Surat started rescue operation
Coast Guard sources have warned that the ship contains highly flammable materials, which can cause further damage. Out of the total 640 containers on the ship, 4 containers contain extremely dangerous substances. The goods loaded on the ship also contain flammable solids, liquids and poisonous substances. 5 rescue ships are currently carrying out rescue operations. INS Surat has also reached the place in the sea where this accident happened. INS Surat has also started rescue operations.
