Fresh snowfall in the mountains
Snowfall in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir, caused temperatures to drop on Thursday. Fresh snowfall occurred in Lahaul-Spiti, Manali, and the Rohtang North Portal of the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh. Snowfall has been continuing in Lahaul-Spiti since morning. In Uttarakhand, snowfall occurred in Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts, while rain and thunderstorms are expected in the plains.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain and snowfall in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh today and for the next two days. Wind speeds of 30-50 km per hour are expected during this period. Maximum temperatures in the hilly areas remained above normal over the past 24 hours, but the snowfall has increased the cold.
Heat wave wreaks havoc in Rajasthan in March itself
Meanwhile, heatwaves have intensified in Rajasthan. On Wednesday, temperatures in Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Balotra reached 39-41 degrees Celsius. Although cloud cover on Thursday brought some relief, intense heat is expected in the next two days.
The Health Department has issued a heatwave advisory. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for eight districts on March 14th. The heat has reduced tourist footfall at tourist destinations in cities like Jaipur. Some relief from the heat is expected in the next two weeks.
Condition of UP, MP and other states
In Madhya Pradesh, Narmadapuram reached 40.2 degrees Celsius, while 10 cities recorded temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected in Uttar Pradesh from March 15, which will bring down temperatures.
Temperatures are also above normal in Haryana and Punjab, but rain is expected. Weather experts say this change in the mountains is due to a western disturbance, while the plains will continue to experience heatwaves.
