
News Topical, Digital Desk : A major accident occurred during the immersion of Durga idols in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday afternoon, Vijayadashami. A tractor-trolley carrying more than 25 devotees was submerged when the road on the pond bridge in Ardla village, under the Pandhana police station area, caved in.
During the rescue operation that lasted until late evening, the bodies of 12 devotees who drowned were recovered. These included eight girls. The search for other devotees continued late into the night.
CM Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the accident.
Expressing grief over the incident, CM Mohan Yadav said, “The accidents that occurred during Durga immersion in Jamli village of Khandwa and the Ingoria police station area near Ujjain are extremely tragic. I express my condolences to the bereaved families.”
₹4 lakh assistance to the families of the deceased
He said that he has directed that the families of the deceased be provided with ₹4 lakh each as compensation and that the injured be provided with proper treatment at the nearest hospital. He prayed to Goddess Durga for the speedy recovery of all the injured and for strength to the bereaved families.
More than 25 people were riding on the tractor-trolley
More than 25 people were aboard the tractor-trailer, including women, men, and children. A bridge crosses the pond. The tractor-trailer was being taken across this bridge to cross to the other side. Meanwhile, the road on the bridge caved in, and the tractor-trailer fell into the pond. All those aboard were swept away.
Rescue operation underway
Police arrived on the scene and began a rescue operation. By late evening, most of the 10 people pulled from the water had died on the spot. Some died in the hospital. The rescue operation continued late into the night. Administrative officials are currently refusing to comment on the accident.
