News Topical, Digital Desk : A court in Kerala has sentenced 10 CPI(M) workers to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in the 2011 Thimiri bomb attack case.

The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge K.N. Prashanth in a case related to the attack at Thimiri near Alakode in Kannur district, where bombs were hurled at RSS and BJP workers.

According to the prosecution, the attack was premeditated and part of a wider series of political violence in the region. All 10 convicts, including T.V. Binu, alias "Udumba Binu," were sentenced to 25 years' rigorous imprisonment.

However, the court allowed the nine convicts to serve their sentences concurrently, reducing their total imprisonment to 10 years. The attack occurred on November 27, 2011, near Thimiri College, when a bomb was thrown at a vehicle carrying RSS-BJP workers.

According to the prosecutor, the attack followed a heated argument over the opening of a Sangh branch in the area. Tensions had escalated the day before, leading to clashes between the two groups.

The prosecution further said that there were around 30 workers in the vehicle at the time of the incident, nine of whom were seriously injured in the blast.
