News Topical, Digital Desk : After violent protests and political turmoil in Nepal, the army has imposed strict restrictions and curfew across the country. The violent protests that erupted on Tuesday forced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign.

The protesters set fire to the Parliament, the President's office, the Prime Minister's residence and several government buildings.

To control this uncontrollable situation, the Nepal Army on Wednesday announced restrictions across the country from morning to 5 pm and then curfew from 10 pm to 6 am. The army says that this step has been taken to prevent looting, arson and violence. Meanwhile, Kathmandu airport has also been closed.

Kathmandu airport closed

There is silence in all the major cities including Kathmandu. Kathmandu airport has been closed. Indigo has also issued an advisory in this regard. The roads are deserted and only a few people are coming out to get essential goods. There is heavy deployment of army and police and patrolling on the roads is intensified. Fire engines are working day and night to extinguish the buildings burning due to arson.

Incidents of violence and looting

The army has clearly warned that any demonstration, vandalism, arson or attack on private property will not be tolerated during the restrictions and curfew. Strict legal action will be taken against those who do so. The army also feared that some people may take advantage of the situation and commit looting, violence and serious crimes. That is why people have been appealed to stay in their homes and go out only for essential work.

The army said that many weapons, ammunition and guns were looted during the demonstrations led by students on Tuesday. The army has appealed to the people that if they have such weapons, they should immediately hand them over to the nearest police station or security forces. Legal action will be taken against those who do not do so. Also, the army has instructed the common people not to wear military uniforms, as it is illegal.

Army is making arrests in Kathmandu

To control the situation, the army and police have started taking strict action. 27 people have been arrested from Chabahil, Boudh and Gaushala areas of Kathmandu on charges of looting, arson and vandalism. Rs 3.37 lakh in cash, 31 weapons, magazines and bullets have been recovered from them. The army has requested the people to cooperate in maintaining peace.

The protesters took to the streets against corruption and the ban on social media. At least 19 people were killed in police action on Monday, after which the protests became more violent. Although the ban on social media was lifted on Monday night, the protesters did not stop and targeted many important buildings.

Exemption to essential services

The Nepal Army has clarified that during the curfew and restrictions, essential services like ambulance, fire brigade, health workers and security forces will be allowed to work.

But common people have been instructed not to step out of their homes without any need. The army says that some people are taking advantage of the situation and causing harm to common people and public property.
