Karnataka: Woman eloped with lover two months after marriage; husband and middleman committed suicide

News Topical, Digital Desk : In Karnataka, a woman's husband committed suicide after she eloped with her lover. Following the news, the man who arranged their marriage also committed suicide.

Following police action, the woman was arrested in this case. Saraswati is currently in jail on charges of abetment to suicide.

Husband commits suicide after wife eloped with lover

Harish and Saraswati's marriage was arranged by the woman's uncle, Rudresh. On January 23, Saraswati left home, saying she was going to a temple. When she didn't return, her parents filed a missing person report.

Police investigations revealed that Saraswati had eloped with her lover, Shivakumar. Upon hearing of his wife's escape, 30-year-old Harish committed suicide. Before taking his own life, Harish wrote a suicide note naming those responsible.

Unable to bear the news of Harish's death, his relative and Saraswati's uncle Rudresh also commits suicide.

Initial investigations have revealed that Saraswati had an affair before marriage, and that her husband, Harish, was aware of this. Harish had convinced his family to let him marry Saraswati.

Police started investigation

Davanagere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant said, 'Two cases have been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the jurisdiction of Davanagere Rural Police Station.'

The police officer further said, "Two men committed suicide. Complaints have been filed by both parties. An investigation has been initiated." Police said that both men committed suicide due to emotional distress.
