Kanwar Yatra 2024 : In view of Sawan Mela and Kanwar Yatra, the route on Gorakhpur-Lucknow highway will be diverted for five days from Monday morning. In view of the safety of Shiva devotees, traffic on the highway will be restricted from 4 am on July 29 to 8 am on August 3, five days before Mahashivratri. There will be exemption on the southern lane for essential service vehicles like ambulances, hearse vehicles etc.

In Gorakhpur-Basti division, lakhs of devotees carry Kanwar in the month of Sawan. A large number of devotees carrying holy water of Saryu river from Ayodhya will reach Baba Bhaddeshwarnath Dham in Basti and other Shiv temples on 2nd August for Jalabhishek. Police has prepared a roadmap for diversion of vehicles on the four lane during Kanwar Yatra. According to the police office, vehicles coming from Lucknow towards Basti, Gorakhpur will be stopped at Barabanki itself and diverted to their destination via Jarwal Road, Karanaiganj, Gonda, Uttaraula, Dumariyaganj. Vehicles coming from Ayodhya towards Basti, Gorakhpur will be diverted via Katra, Lakdamandi, Nawabganj, Gonda, Dumariyaganj. 

Vehicles going from Gorakhpur to Lucknow will be diverted from Khalilabad and taken forward via Mehdawal Road through Bansi, Dumariyaganj, Uttaraula. Similarly, vehicles going from Basti to Lucknow will be diverted from above the Badeban flyover and sent forward via Manauri-Dumariaganj from under the flyover. Vehicles coming from Ambedkarnagar to Basti will be diverted from Kalwari intersection via Gaighat, Kudraha, Lalganj to Sant Kabir Nagar district. On the other hand, the Sant Kabir Nagar administration had made preparations for diversion from 8 am on Sunday as per the instructions received from the ADG office. According to SP Satyajit, the arrangement will be made effective as soon as the instructions are received.
