News Topical, Digital Desk : India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish launched a scathing attack on Pakistan and said it is steeped in "extremism and terrorism".
He made this statement during a discussion in the United Nations Security Council. The topic of this discussion was 'resolution of disputes through multilateralism and peaceful means'.
Comparing India and Pakistan, Harish said, "On one side is India, a mature democracy, emerging economy and inclusive society. On the other side is Pakistan, which is steeped in radicalism and terrorism and is a country that repeatedly borrows from the IMF."
He said in clear words that talk of international peace and security is meaningless unless a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism is adopted.
Targeting Pakistan, he said, “It is shameful that a member country of the Security Council preaches to others while itself is involved in wrong activities which are not acceptable to the international community.”
Mention of Pahalgam terrorist attack
Harish referred to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 tourists lost their lives. He said, “Countries violating the principles of good neighbourliness and promoting cross-border terrorism will have to pay a heavy price for it.”
In response to this attack, India launched 'Operation Sindoor', under which terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir were targeted. This operation was focused, restrained and non-provocative. Harish said that on Pakistan's request, India stopped its military operation when its main objectives were achieved.
He stressed that India is committed to multilateralism and the path of peaceful solutions for international peace and security. But terrorism will not be tolerated, and it is necessary to take strong action against it.
