Indian Railways has changed the rules for applying for emergency quota. The Railway Ministry has said that people will have to submit the emergency quota request at least one day before the departure of the train. What did the Railways say in its instructions?

On Tuesday, the Railway Ministry issued a circular regarding the change in rules of emergency quota. This circular states- "For all trains departing between 10 am and 1 pm, emergency quota request should reach the emergency cell by 12 noon on the day before the journey."

The circular issued by the Railway Ministry further states, "For all remaining trains departing between 14:01 hrs to 12:59 hrs, emergency quota requests should reach the emergency cell latest by 16:00 hrs on the day prior to the journey."

Why has this decision been taken?

Actually, the Railways has made these changes in the rules of emergency quota tickets in view of the recent decision to prepare the reservation chart eight hours before the departure of the train.

The Railway Board had proposed to prepare the train reservation chart 8 hours in advance instead of 4 hours. For trains departing before 14:00, the chart was said to be prepared at 21:00 the previous day. Apart from this, there was also talk of making changes in the passenger reservation system from the railways. The rules for tatkal ticket booking have changed from July 1. Now only verified users can book tatkal tickets.
