News Topical, Digital Desk : The government has postponed a directive requiring passengers to choose at least 60 percent of their seats on an aircraft without additional fees. This directive was to be implemented by all airlines from April 20th.

The ministry announced this on March 18.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on March 18 that it had ordered the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to issue instructions to airlines in this regard. In a letter to the DGCA, the Ministry of Civil Aviation stated, "The matter has been reviewed based on applications received from the Federation of Indian Airlines and Akasa Air."

These applications highlighted the operational and commercial implications of the said provision, including its potential impact on fare structures and its compatibility with the existing unregulated fare regime.

Keeping these things in mind and till the issue is thoroughly investigated, it has been decided that the provision of providing at least 60 percent seats without additional fee should be postponed till further orders.
