News Topical, Digital Desk : President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of treason on Tuesday, accusing him without evidence of leading an effort to falsely link him to Russia and undermine his 2016 presidential campaign.

There was no comment from Obama.

Trump often attacks Obama by name, but this is the first time since he became president that he has pointed a finger at Obama with allegations of criminal action. A spokesman for Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During his speech in the Oval Office, Trump on Friday took a dig at remarks by his intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard in which she threatened to send the Justice Department to prosecute Obama administration officials over an intelligence assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

A treasonous plot was hatched to weaken Trump

She declassified confidential documents and said the information she was releasing showed that top Obama administration officials had hatched a treasonous plot in 2016 to undermine Trump.
