News Topical, Digital Desk : Misinformation (rumors) about a sudden halt in petrol and diesel sales in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district has led to massive crowds at petrol pumps. People have been standing in long queues from morning until evening to fill their vehicle tanks and refill fuel containers. However, the district administration has clarified that the district has ample fuel stocks and there is no need for people to panic.
DM Santosh Kumar Sharma himself took charge.
To ensure smooth availability and distribution of fuel in the district, District Magistrate (DM) Santosh Kumar Sharma along with SDM (Sadar) and District Supply Officer conducted a surprise inspection of petrol pumps on Friday (March 27).
- The DM arrived at the Pakdi petrol pump first. The operator reported that the total stock of petrol was 34,002 liters, of which approximately 5,000 liters had been sold. Meanwhile, the stock of diesel was 43,792 liters, of which 3,523 liters had been sold.
- Mahuva Dhala (Maa Bokda Devi Filling Station): Here the stock of petrol was found to be 23,890 litres and the stock of diesel was found to be 14,419 litres, out of which only 8,161 and 91 litres were sold respectively.
Pump operators at both locations clarified that oil companies are regularly supplying and there is no shortage of stock. The crowds are only increasing due to misinformation spreading on social media.
Strict instructions from the administration
After assessing the situation, the District Magistrate issued strict instructions to officials and pump operators that under no circumstances should petrol and diesel be sold in gallons or open containers. In the event of suspicious activity or unusual hoarding, the administration should be immediately informed. The District Supply Officer has been directed to conduct regular inspections of all petrol pumps and take strict action if any irregularities are found.
There are 134 petrol pumps operating in the district.
A total of 134 petrol pumps operate in Maharajganj district. According to administrative data, the district's pumps currently have a stock of 1,036 kiloliters of diesel and 842 kiloliters of petrol. On March 26th, the district recorded normal sales of 650 kiloliters of diesel and 376 kiloliters of petrol.
Don't pay attention to rumours on social media.
During the inspection, the District Magistrate directly interacted with those who had come to buy fuel and appealed to them for patience. He said, "People should not be influenced by misleading news and rumors circulating on social media and hoard fuel unnecessarily. Purchase only as per your needs, so that everyone can get adequate fuel and law and order remains normal."
