News Topical, Digital Desk : A horrific road accident on the Bharatmala Highway in the Matoda area of Jodhpur's Phalodi subdivision has shocked the entire district. Late Sunday night, a tempo-travel vehicle carrying pilgrims collided with a parked truck, killing 15 people and injuring several others. The administration has been in action since Monday morning due to the severity of the accident.
The Bharatmala Highway has long been home to a large number of temporary roadside eateries, tea and snack stalls, and truck drivers' rest stops. These eateries neither fall within the designated boundaries nor have valid permits. Truck drivers often stop at these eateries and park their vehicles on the road, forcing oncoming vehicles to make sudden turns, resulting in frequent accidents.
Sunday night's tragic accident became a warning bell
On Sunday night (November 2nd), a tempo travel vehicle full of devotees collided from behind with a truck parked on the roadside near Matoda. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely destroyed. There was chaos at the scene, and local residents began rescue operations. Upon receiving the information, police and administrative personnel arrived at the scene, and the injured were taken to Phalodi Hospital.
The administration initiated strict action
Following the accident, the administration launched a campaign on the Bharatmala Highway on Monday morning, accompanied by a heavy police force. A joint team of the Phalodi SDM, police administration, and Municipal Council removed dozens of illegal roadside eateries and temporary shops. Truck drivers and eateries operators were warned that strict action would be taken if they continued parking or carrying out illegal construction on the roadside.
The administration is also keeping an eye on illegal biodiesel sales.
Locals reported that illegal biodiesel is also sold on a large scale on the highway. Many truck drivers purchase biodiesel at low prices, which is not only harmful to their vehicles but can also pose a safety hazard. This has been repeatedly complained about, but now, following the accident, the administration has indicated a stricter stance on this issue.
Local residents demand a permanent solution
Local residents say that such action is only taken after accidents, but the same situation returns within a few days. They have demanded that separate parking spaces be established along the highway for trucks, designated zones for dhabas, and regular monitoring be conducted to prevent such accidents from recurring in the future.
