News Topical, Digital Desk : The Jaunpur police in Uttar Pradesh have achieved a major success in their crackdown on cybercrime and mobile theft. They have recovered a total of ₹26.68 lakh withdrawn from the accounts of eight victims of cyber fraud. Additionally, 106 missing and stolen mobile phones were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Following this police action, SP City Ayush Srivastava provided details of the entire case during a press conference held in the Police Lines auditorium on Saturday. SP City stated that the recovered mobile phones were recovered from various districts in various states including Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
Stolen and lost mobile phones worth Rs 21 lakh recovered
He said the recovered phones included models from major companies such as Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Redmi, and Oppo. These mobile phones were identified with the help of the CBI and cyber team, after which they were returned to the owners who filed reports at the respective police stations. The total value of the phones is estimated to be ₹2.1 million.
Refund of money to victims
SP City Ayush Srivastava has also informed that in cases related to cyber fraud, the police took action in eight cases registered in the month of October and traced the money withdrawn from the accounts and got it returned to the victims through the bank process.
In case of fraud, complain on helpline 1930
Ayush Srivastava stated that the police's priority is to prevent cybercrime and raise public awareness. He urged citizens to immediately call the national cybercrime helpline number 1930 or file a complaint on the government's cybercrime portal if they are defrauded online so that the money can be frozen and recovered in a timely manner.
The SP City stated that over the past year, the police have seized approximately ₹2 crore in cyber fraud money in Jaunpur district, and the process of recovering it is underway. Six suspects have been arrested in the mobile theft cases, and an investigation into their network is ongoing. He stated that the accused are being questioned to determine how they obtained the account numbers and transferred the money.
