
News Topical, Digital Desk : Harshal Patil (age 35), a young engineer and contractor living in Tandulwadi village in Valva taluka of Sangli district of Maharashtra, has committed suicide. It is being told that he had worked on water supply projects in rural areas under Jal Jeevan Mission, but he did not get payment for a long time.
According to the family, Harshal Patil was expecting to receive an amount of about 1.4 crores from the government. For this work, he first took a loan of 80 lakhs and later the total pressure increased to 1.45 crores. When the payment did not happen despite several attempts, he committed suicide in his field on July 22 due to mental stress.

This incident has created a stir in Maharashtra politics. Giving clarification on behalf of the Mahayuti government, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that Patil was not a direct government contractor, but he had taken a sub-contract through the main contractor. On this basis, there was a delay in his payment.
Opposition surrounded the Fadnavis government
However, opposition parties have termed this statement as irresponsible. Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), Congress and NCP have alleged that due to irregularities and delays in Jal Jeevan Mission, the debt burden on contractors is increasing. Contractor organizations have also warned that if this situation continues, more contractors may be forced to commit suicide.
