Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has written a letter to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, highlighting recent tragic accidents in the state. Gehlot wrote that the state is witnessing an unfortunate series of horrific road accidents, including the Jaipur dumper accident (13 deaths), the Bhankrota accident (20 deaths), the Manoharpur-Dausa road accident (11 deaths), the Matoda road accident (15 deaths), and other accidents, such as the Jaisalmer bus fire (28 deaths), and the SMS Hospital fire (8 deaths), which are extremely worrying and heartbreaking.
Ashok Gehlot expressed concern over the issue of non-payment of compensation.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed concern over the issue of the families of the victims not receiving compensation and wrote, "When I met them at SMS Hospital on November 5, the families of the victims informed me that the state government has not yet provided any compensation to them. Government officials informed them that they will receive PMNRF assistance and the benefit of the Ayushman (Chiranjeevi) Accident Insurance Scheme to eligible families."
Question raised on government's indifference
Questioning the government's indifference to providing compensation, Gehlot wrote that the victims were not members of a single family or community, and therefore, no one is protesting to pressure the state government on their behalf. This should not mean that the families of these victims should not be provided assistance.
Questioning the government's sensitivity regarding the delay in receiving compensation, it wrote that it has been observed that government compensation amounts intended to support affected families after these accidents are often announced with delays. Sometimes, assistance is provided only after protests and social and political pressure from family members, which demonstrates a lack of sensitivity.
