News Topical, Digital Desk : The military forcibly quells the fires of protest that erupt in Pakistan. However, this time, Gen-Ji anger has begun to flare up in the neighboring country. The reason is an article published in the US, which was later deleted. This article, written by a Pakistani student, has ignited a spark of Gen-Ji that had been simmering for years.
Zorain Nizamani, a Pakistani PhD student in the US, published an article titled "Everything is Over" in the Pakistani newspaper "The Express Tribune" on January 1. Under pressure from the Pakistani military, the article was removed.
Zorain's article sparks uproar in Pakistan
Zorain Nizamani is pursuing a PhD in Criminology from the University of Arkansas in the US. In his article, he wrote, “The older generation in power in Pakistan is out of the game. The younger generation is not falling for your sway. No matter how many seminars you hold in schools and colleges, you cannot instill patriotism in the youth.”
Zorain targeted the Pakistani army
Taking aim at the Pakistani Army, Zoran said, “The youth know very well that they cannot challenge those in power. That is why they quietly leave the country without saying anything and then never look back. Many of my friends tried to raise their voice, but they were silenced.”
PTI raised questions
Zareen's article was deleted, prompting questions from former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Pakistani activist Mahalka Samdani also sarcastically wrote, "It wouldn't be surprising if this article was removed by the Express Tribune. Zareen isn't saying that."
Voices of protest rising in neighboring countries
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Moonis Elahi wrote, "A reality check for the policy-making generation."
Pakistani lawyer Abdul Moeez wrote, "This is truly a wonderful article, coming from the heart of every young Pakistani."
Pakistan Human Rights also objected to the removal of the article. They said, "The removal of Zorain Nizami's article is proof that freedom of expression is under threat in Pakistan."
