News Topical, Digital Desk : Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is fully committed to principled diplomacy, hours before new nuclear talks between Iran and the United States are set to begin in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi wrote, "Iran is going to the talks with open eyes and keeping in mind the memories of the past year." He added, "We are negotiating with complete sincerity and will firmly stand by our rights." The Iranian Foreign Minister also made it clear that any agreement requires fulfilling promises. He said, "Equality, mutual respect, and mutual interests are not mere lip service, but the foundation and essential conditions for a lasting agreement."
Tension has increased between the two countries
Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated significantly following a 12-day conflict in June 2025. Following this, the US military bombed some of Iran's major nuclear facilities. In recent months, Iran has cracked down on nationwide protests with violence. Iran wants the talks to remain limited to nuclear issues and the sanctions imposed on it, but the US wants the talks to also address Iran's ballistic missile program and its regional activities.
America increased military presence
The United States has increased its military presence in West Asia. After several back-and-forth talks, face-to-face talks are now underway, which are expected to ease tensions. The international community is closely monitoring this development as it could impact regional stability, the global energy market, and efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. US President Donald Trump has warned that this is not a good time for Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
