
News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi Cyber Fraud Gang: The IFSO unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted a high-profile fake call center, exposing an international cyber fraud gang. This gang was duping citizens of America, Canada and Britain in the name of airline booking and refund. The mastermind of the gang and director of the call center Akshay Sharma has been arrested.
How did the accused cheat people
Delhi Police investigation has revealed that false advertisements were given on online platforms like Google and social media through a fake travel agency named AVS Holidays run by accused Akshay Sharma. When foreign customers booked tickets, their debit/credit card details were taken. After booking, refunds were claimed from airlines through fake medical or death certificates.
The gang used to hunt foreign nationals
According to Delhi Police, this gang was mainly targeting American, Canadian and British citizens. After deducting arbitrary cancellation charges from the refund amount, some amount was sent to the victims so that there is no suspicion of fraud. Delhi Police has found digital evidence of hundreds of fake documents during investigation.
Digital evidence found in Delhi Police raid
On June 24, Delhi Police raided the office of AVS Holidays in Kirti Nagar and arrested the mastermind Akshay Sharma and recovered 36 laptops, 6 mobile phones and 4 hard drives from there. All these contained fake documents, booking data and records related to the fraud.
Delhi Police is investigating the matter
During interrogation by Delhi Police, the accused has confessed that he was running a network of duping foreigners under the guise of a travel company for the past several years. Currently, the process of searching for more accused in this case, checking bank accounts and coordination with international agencies is going on.
