News Topical, Digital Desk : India's telecom giant Bharti Airtel has achieved a big milestone. Airtel has overtaken Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to occupy the third position in terms of market capitalization.

Airtel shares saw another 1% gain on Monday, taking the company's market value to ₹11.45 lakh crore, ₹2,220 crore more than TCS.

Reliance Industries remains the most valuable company on this list, with a market capitalization of ₹19.3 lakh crore. HDFC Bank is second with a valuation of ₹15.3 lakh crore. Airtel's market cap has increased by about ₹2 lakh crore so far in the year 2025. It is the second largest company in Nifty50 after Reliance Industries. On the other hand, TCS's market value is facing a decline in contrast. The decline in the market is believed to be an effect of the weakness of the US market and AI-related concerns. According to analysts, large IT firms may face earnings pressure in the upcoming quarters, while medium-sized companies may perform better. Airtel has achieved this position while it was not even in the top 10 three years ago. What makes this achievement special is that the last time Airtel overtook TCS was in 2009, but then it was not at number three.

Investment on consumption Many brokerage firms, including Jefferies, have adopted a bullish stance on Airtel. It has been described as an attractive option for investment on India's growing consumption. Dealers estimate that Airtel's earnings will increase at a medium level and the company's shares still have scope for further growth. As of March 2025, Airtel had a total of 609.44 crore outstanding shares, of which 39.23 crore are partly paid shares. Airtel's stock has gained 20.2% since January this year, while TCS's stock has declined 22% in the same period. During this period, Nifty50 has gained about 6%. This change is indicative of the changing picture of telecom and IT companies in the Indian stock market, where Airtel has gained momentum and the challenges of big IT firms are increasing. Investors are paying attention to this change as it reflects the market dynamics of the last few years.
