
News Topical, Digital Desk : The team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has busted a big drug racket in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru. Cocaine worth Rs 14.69 crore was seized in soap boxes here. Two women from Northeast India have been arrested with drugs near Cottonpet in Bengaluru. The accused women were smuggling seven kilograms of cocaine in soap boxes. The accused women have been identified as Laljamluwai of Manipur and Lalthangliani of Mizoram.
DRI officials arrested both the accused women and seized the drugs. Initial investigation has revealed a high-level interstate smuggling gang. Interrogation of the women caught with drugs may lead to many new revelations, based on which other accused may be arrested.
Drugs worth Rs 40 crores were seized from Bengaluru airport
The DRI team had seized cocaine worth Rs 40 crore at Bengaluru airport on July 18. Along with this, the officials also obtained information about people associated with African gangs in Bengaluru city. This drug was brought through a plane from Qatar. A DRI source said that the person arrested from the airport is a resident of North India. He is 35 years old and used to supply contraband to African gangs involved in drug trafficking in Bengaluru. The accused had hidden the drugs inside the cover of two superhero comics. Acting on a tip-off, DRI officials checked the smuggler's luggage and found two superhero comic books unusually heavy. DRI said, "The officials carefully recovered white powder hidden in the cover of the books. The powder was confirmed to be cocaine. The recovered cocaine weighs 4 kg and its international market value is around Rs 40 crore.
