This has intensified the buzz about improving relations between India and Bangladesh.
Efforts to fully restore visa services
Aniruddha Das, India's senior consular officer in Sylhet (a district in Bangladesh), said efforts are underway to fully restore all visa services, bdnews24 reported. "Medical and double-entry visas are now being issued. Steps are also being taken to resume other categories, including visit visas," Das said at the Sylhet District Press Club.
Relationships are built on the foundation of mutual respect and dignity.
The Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Sylhet assured maximum cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations by providing visa facilitation. He said that India-Bangladesh relations are based on the foundation of mutual respect and dignity.
The thinking of both countries is similar
Regarding India-Bangladesh relations, Das said that the people of both countries will be key stakeholders in a stable, positive, constructive, long-term, and mutually beneficial relationship. He further said that both countries have similar visions and want to work together.
Visas were suspended after the death of the student leader.
It should be noted that Indian visa centers suspended their operations in Bangladesh due to the deterioration of relations between the two countries following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Following the student leader's death, protests erupted in Bangladesh, which also took on an anti-India tone.
Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee to India
Relations between the two countries had already deteriorated after the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following protests in July 2024. Sheikh Hasina fled to India following the protests.
Tariq Rahman invited to visit India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India along with his family. PM Modi said he looks forward to working closely with the BNP leader to strengthen the multifaceted bilateral relationship.
India-Bangladesh shared history
In a letter to Rahman, Modi said that as two close neighbours, India and Bangladesh have a deep friendship based on shared history, cultural ties and people's aspirations for peace and prosperity. "The strong convergence between our developmental priorities will serve as a guiding principle for our future cooperation," he said in a letter.
