Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammad Riaz Hamidullah, who was summoned to India a day after the Indian Embassy received threats, arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday afternoon.
India strict on Seven Sisters statement
National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah has made anti-India statements in public speeches, threatening to isolate the Seven Sisters and offering refuge to separatists from the Northeast if there is instability in Bangladesh.
Hasnat Abdullah has consistently made inflammatory statements against India. However, India has taken a firm stance following this statement and summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner for talks. Mohammad Riaz Hamidullah came to the Foreign Ministry at the invitation of the Indian government.
'Victory Day' celebrated in India
India celebrated Victory Day a day earlier, on December 16th. Cultural programs were held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi on Tuesday. High Commissioner Mohammad Riaz Hamidullah promised to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh. He specifically mentioned working for the country's younger generation.
Hamidullah further stated that Bangladesh and India enjoy excellent relations. Both countries are moving forward with prosperity, peace, and regional security in mind. Mohammad Riaz also stated that the mutual interdependence between the two countries further strengthens their ties.
