News Topical, Digital Desk : Marriage registrations at the Registration Department will now first verify the identity of the bride and groom and witnesses from both sides through biometric Aadhaar verification. After this, the marriage will be registered.

To prevent fraud and ensure the presence of genuine people, this system was to be implemented at all sub-registrar offices in the state on April 1st, on the orders of the Chief Secretary, but it could not be implemented due to technical reasons. Now, this new system is expected to be implemented from Thursday.

Inspector General of Registration, Neha Sharma, has issued orders to the Additional Inspector General of Registration in all districts in this regard. To prevent fraud in marriage registration, the NIC camp office in Lucknow has developed new software specifically to verify Aadhaar with the Aadhaar center's database using biometrics.

Those whose fingers cannot be scanned will be identified by scanning their eyes using an iris scanner. Online marriage registration applications will be made through this new software. Aadhaar verification will first be done via OTP. This will be followed by biometric verification at the sub-registrar's office.

AIG Sharma Naveen Kumar S stated that biometric RD devices have been made available for this purpose in all six sub-registrar offices in the district. The AIG explained that marriage registration in the registration department is done after the marriage under the Uttar Pradesh Marriage Registration Rules 2017. In which registration is done on the basis of identity cards, photographs and marriage proof of the bride, groom and witnesses. Marriages of brides and grooms of different religions and castes are registered in the District Magistrate's Court.

All six offices in the district register an average of 25 marriages daily and approximately 600 per month. Registration fees are 10 rupees for registration within a year, while delays are 50 rupees per year.
