News Topical, Digital Desk : The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to various e-commerce companies, including Amazon India and Walmart-owned Flipkart, directing them to remove products carrying the Pakistani flag from their platforms, Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday.

'Sale of Pakistani flags will not be tolerated'

The CCPA also sent notices to YouBuy India, Etsy, The Flag Company and The Flag Corporation, saying that the sale of Pakistani flags and related items will not be tolerated. Joshi said in a social media post, "Such insensitivity will not be tolerated. E-commerce platforms are directed to immediately remove all such content and comply with national laws." However, the minister's post did not clarify which law was being violated by selling these items.

According to reports, Pakistani flags and related items bearing Pakistan's national emblem were being sold on these websites. This action came at a time when India and Pakistan were embroidered with military weapons after terrorists killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Kashmir. India launched 'Operation Sindoor' and targeted several terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. On 10 May, the two countries agreed to stop military action. The Indian government said that the agreement to stop military action was reached after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) was contacted.

CAIT had demanded

Earlier on Tuesday, CAIT, a major trade organization, had written a letter to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi demanding that the online sale of items bearing Pakistan's national symbols be banned.
