News Topical, Digital Desk : A commotion erupted during the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C., when a suspicious man entered the event armed with a weapon. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, a California resident, entered the event armed with several weapons and attempted to breach security.
During this time, he also fired several rounds. However, security forces subdued him near the ballroom where the event was taking place and President Donald Trump was also present. Hours after the incident, Trump gave an interview to CBS News journalist Norah O'Donnell. Initially, Trump appeared calm, but quickly became alarmed when the reporter mentioned the attacker's alleged manifesto.
Trump's temper rose as soon as the manifesto was mentioned.
His anger erupted as soon as Nora read the manifesto's contents. Trump responded sharply, saying that an attempt was being made to deliberately defame him. He stated clearly, "He has nothing to do with those allegations and is completely innocent." He added, “I am not a rapist. I have not raped anyone.”
O'Donnell interrupted, asking, "Oh, do you think he was talking about you?" But Trump ignored her question, saying, "I'm not a pedophile. Are you reading this nonsense from some sick person? My name was linked to things I had nothing to do with. I was completely exonerated."
The attacker was described as mentally ill
Trump described the attacker as a "fanatic," an "anti-Christian," and a "very sick man." He said such a person is a danger to society. He also blamed the "hate speech" of Democratic leaders for the rising political violence in the United States, calling it extremely worrying.
The president claimed he wasn't afraid during the shooting. He said he wanted to understand the situation and didn't leave immediately. According to Trump, he wanted to see for himself what was happening and was prepared to return to the event later.
