News Topical, Digital Desk : Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday clarified his decision to receive the Veer Savarkar Award, saying he only learned about it yesterday while in Kerala. He also expressed his objection.
Posting on social media platform X, he wrote, "I have come to know from media reports that I have been selected for the 'Veer Savarkar Award', which will be given in Delhi today. I came to know about this announcement yesterday in Kerala, where I had gone to vote in the local self-government elections."
'This is irresponsible'
The Congress leader further said, "While answering media queries in Thiruvananthapuram, I had clarified that I was neither aware of nor had I accepted any such award and that it was irresponsible on the part of the organisers to announce my name without my consent. Despite this, today some media outlets in Delhi are asking the same questions."
He said, "Therefore, I am issuing this statement to clarify the matter. Due to lack of clarity regarding the nature of the award, the organisation giving it or any other context, there is no question of my attending the event today or accepting the award."
What is 'Veer Savarkar Award'?
