News Topical, Digital Desk : A press conference was organized by the officials of Himachal Pradesh Freedom Fighters Council in Mandi . During the press conference , the Council 's General Secretary Atul Thakur said that a board should be formed to solve the problems of freedom fighters and their dependent families .
He said that since the dependents of freedom fighters are facing huge problems , caste based reservation should be abolished from freedom fighter dependent quota and the backlog in freedom fighter dependent jobs should be filled .
Atul Thakur , General Secretary , Himachal Pradesh Freedom Fighters Council said that are those freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for the independence of the country being remembered today and are the dependents of those fighters getting the respect they deserve ?
Contacted the families of more than 100 freedom fighters
He said that there are many families of freedom fighters who are not even invited to the programs of 15th August and 26th January , such families feel isolated . He said that the government does not have the data available on how many freedom fighters were there in the state , and he himself went to the ground level and contacted the families of more than 100 freedom fighters .
' Freedom fighters ' office taken over by political party '
Atul Thakur said that road facilities have not been provided to the houses of freedom fighters and he has received a letter in which it is mentioned that it takes five men to carry the widow of a freedom fighter on a stretcher to the road. Atul Thakur said that there was a time when freedom fighters had their own office where they used to sit , today that place has been occupied by a so - called political party and has been locked , freedom fighter Omchand Kapoor himself used to sit in that office .
' Indira Gandhi had announced the categories of freedom fighters '
Freedom fighter Omchand Kapoor said that during the struggle for freedom , wherever there were princely states , Prajamandal used to work there . The head of Prajamandal was Swami Purnanand and for 12 years I worked as the treasurer of Prajamandal . Omchand Kapoor said that at that time people were afraid of joining politics because who would raise slogans against the king . Former Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi announced the category of freedom fighters that such persons who have fought for the freedom of the country in princely states and have been a part of Azad Hind Fauj will be freedom fighters .
' No action has been taken till date '
Omchand Kapoor said that he has the list of facilities to be given to freedom fighters , which was issued by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi , and the list of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is also present , but till date no action has been taken on them , and the condition of the families of freedom fighters is very pitiable .
Meanwhile, the president of the council 's Mandi Mandal, Shamsher Singh , said that he is the grandson of freedom fighter late Hirda Ram and he also had to prove the fact that late Hirdaram was a freedom fighter . It is a matter of great sadness and irony that the families of freedom fighters are being ignored in this manner .
