It is reported that the bus carrying passengers was hit by a landslide, and mountain debris fell on the bus. Administrative negligence has also been exposed in this bus accident. It is said that as soon as the accident occurred, the villagers immediately informed the administration. However, even after receiving the information, rescue teams arrived late, and there was also a delay in calling for a JCB. Had the rescue and relief teams arrived on the scene in time, many lives could have been saved. The delay in removing the debris resulted in the passengers suffocating to death.
Where was the bus going and how many people were on board?
It is reported that the private bus was traveling from Santoshi Marotan to Ghumarwin. A landslide suddenly occurred near the Bhallu Bridge in Barthi, and debris began falling from the mountainside. The bus was completely engulfed in debris. There were about 30 people on board.
President, PM and CM expressed condolences
The President, Prime Minister, and Chief Minister have expressed condolences over the accident. President Draupadi Murmu said in a post on Instagram, "The news of the death of many people in the bus accident caused by a landslide in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh is extremely saddening. I express my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to those injured."
PM announced compensation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over the accident. A post has been made by the Prime Minister's Office on the social media platform X. The PMO post reads, "Saddened by the loss of life and property in the accident in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My condolences are with the affected people and their families in this difficult time. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured."
CM Sukhu expressed grief
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also expressed grief over the accident. He said, "The news of a passenger bus being hit by a massive landslide near Balughat (Bhallu Bridge) in the Jhanduta Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district has deeply shaken me. May God grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families. I stand with all the affected families in this difficult time."
Jairam Thakur expressed grief over the accident
On the Bilaspur bus accident, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jai Ram Thakur said, "A tragic accident has taken place. I express my condolences to those who have lost their family members. May God give strength to those families to bear the grief. I will personally visit the spot and try to meet the affected families, and PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda have expressed their condolences. We are all in pain due to this accident."
