News Topical, Digital Desk : Hansraj, the BJP MLA from Churah and former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, received a major reprieve from the Chamba District and Sessions Court in a POCSO case. During the hearing of his bail plea, the court granted him regular bail. Hansraj's supporters were elated by the court's decision, and the atmosphere outside was a mild celebration following the verdict.
This entire matter came to light when a young woman from Chamba district accused Hansraj of sexual harassment. In her statement to the police, the woman stated that she had filed a complaint a year earlier, but the matter failed to proceed. This time, based on her complaint, the police registered a serious case under the POCSO Act, which subsequently became a major issue in state politics.
Bail granted in court
Hansraj approached the court immediately after the case was filed and applied for bail. During the hearing, which lasted several days, both sides presented their arguments. Case documents, police reports, and other facts were presented before the court.
On Wednesday, after considering all aspects, the court granted the MLA regular bail. However, despite his bail, his legal woes are not completely over, as the police investigation is still ongoing and further action will depend on that.
Full faith in the judiciary – Hansraj
When Hansraj emerged from the court premises after being granted bail, he said, "I have full faith in the judiciary. The allegations against me are baseless. The truth will soon be revealed. I have been cooperating with the investigation from the beginning and will continue to do so."
Police investigation continues
The police say that the investigation is proceeding with utmost seriousness within the legal framework. In the coming days, the police will record witness statements, examine technical and electronic evidence, and investigate other aspects of the case.
Despite being granted bail, Hansraj will still face court appearances and police questioning at future dates. So, his troubles are far from over.
