News Topical, Digital Desk : The G-20 summit is being held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 21st to 23rd. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a trip to South Africa to participate. Meanwhile, the United States has distanced itself from the 20th G-20 summit being held in South Africa.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated clearly that the US is not participating in the official meetings and discussions of the G20 summit being held in South Africa. She accused South African President Cyril Ramaphosa of speaking negatively about the US and President Donald Trump, saying the Trump administration does not like this language.

The White House Press Secretary also clarified that the US Ambassador to South Africa is there simply to acknowledge that the next G20 summit (2026) will be held in the US, and not to engage in any formal discussions.

America will not participate in official talks

"I saw the South African president this morning speaking a little bit against the US and the US president, and the president or his team didn't like that language," Levitt said during a press briefing. He
added that the US ambassador is not there to participate in official discussions, even if the South African president is making false claims.

US absence is their loss

It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump has announced that no US government officials will participate in the G20 summit, citing human rights violations in South Africa. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has responded by saying that the US absence is "their loss," and that Pretoria will proceed with the summit despite this.

South Africa will host

This year, South Africa will host the G20 Leaders Summit, chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa, from November 22 to 23 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

These countries are included

The G-20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as two regional bodies, the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU), according to the MEA.
